DINGLE PENINSULA

Beehive huts - aka clochans

These structures are called "Beehive Huts" and are a form of ringforts. They are referred to as rath, lios, cathair, or caiseal. They were used by farmers of the early Christian period and would have been used to protect their cattle against cattle raiders. They were inhabited from ancient times to around AD 1200. They are made of a series of flat stones laid on one another without mortar. This cashel is called "Cathair ng gConchuireach" or "Caher Conor".

Scenery
The following photographs were taken with my back to the cashel of beehive huts. They had a million dollar view.

Sheep

These sheep were just standing in formation on this rock formation. No movement other than the chewing of the cud could be seen. They were in a field next to the beehive huts.
