Woodford Estate

Woodford Estate was built soon after William Coleman purchased the land in 1756. He sold the house to Alexander Barclay in 1769. Barclay's brother-in-law, David Franks, bought it in 1771. It was confiscated by the American government when Franks was deemed to be a sympathizer of the British. In 1793, Isaac Wharton purchased it. The house remained the Wharton residence until 1868 when it was purchased by the city of Philadelphia. Woodford is administered by the trustees of the estate of Miss Naomi Wood where her extensive collection of antiques is on display.
