Petroglyph National Monument

The Petroglyph National Monument is found north of I-40 and west of I-25. It was established as a state park in the 1970s and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. The petroglyphs are fragile and can never be repaired once damaged. Some images may be 2000-3000 years old. Others were created since the 1600s.

The sign next to this rock said that the rock looks this way because the layers of the rock cooled at different rates.
