Glowdeo - Thursday, October 9

Thursday night they had the Glowdeo. They fill the balloons, but they don't launch them. Every so often there is a countdown after which the balloons turn on their propane burners. It is a great effect, but it is difficult to get clear pictures hand-held.

After the Glowdeo we decided to go to other sights in the area rather than go back for a third day at the International Balloon Fiesta. About 12 hours after the Glowdeo "Wings of Wind" crashed. The balloons were grounded for the rest of the day. That night the winds began to get stronger, because Hurricane Norbert was making its way from the Pacific through Mexico past El Paso, TX (I think). Norbert affected the weather for the rest of the week, and all ascensions were cancelled. In fact, on Friday there was hail and a tornado very near Albuquerque.
