JAMESTOWN, VA


First English settlement in the Western Hemisphere. Settled in 1607 and named after King James - originally called James Fort. Jamestown was the first capital of the colony. The capital was moved to Williamsburg in 1699. In 1994, the position of the James Fort was located, and archaeological investigation has been occurring since.
