Appenzeller Family Tree

Several years ago, I received a study of my family tree from a distant relative. I have received some inquiries from other Appenzellers asking if they are related to me. The furthest back that anyone has been able to trace is a Christian Appenzeller who was born in 1765 in Reuthin, Germany. It seems that another Christian Appenzeller (3 generations later) moved to Illinois soon after the Civil War. My wife and I visited Appenzell, Switzerland several years ago. We were told that there are no people in Appenzell by the name of Appenzeller unless they moved back from other parts of the world. My theory is that some people who left Appenzell took (or were given) the name of Appenzeller as an indication of where they were from. I don't know if we will ever know what the names of these people were before they left Appenzell -- if I'm right, that is. I have put together the family tree below (in which I have traced the lineage of male descendents):

The First Four Generations:
Christian Appenzeller had a son named Jakob
Jakob Appenzeller had a son named Christian
Christian Appenzeller had the following sons:
      (1) Jacob, (2) Johann Georg, (3) Andreas, (4) Matthias, (5) Johannes, and (6) William Appenzeller (and several daughters)

(1) Jacob and his children
(1a) Descendants of Jacob's son, Henry Jacob
(1b) Descendants of Jacob's son, George Christian
(1c) Descendants of Jacob's son, Harry
(1d) Descendants of Jacob's son, Elmer
(1e) Descendents of Jacob's son, Walter
(1f) Descendents of Jacob's son, Fred

(2) Johann Georg and his descendants: Johann Georg > John > Lee > Gary (me)

(3) Andrew and his descendants

(4) Matthias (Matthew) never married.

(5) Johannes (Johnnie) never married.

(6) William and his descendants
